Index no. 0050
After The Spanish-American War of 1898, The Philippine Islands were sold by Spain to the U.S. The new rulers found that a series of maps of the islands was being prepared in the Jesuit Observatory in Manila, supervised by its director, José P. Algué. These maps were voluntarily transferred to the new rulers, who published them as this atlas.
